Cotranslate.net Collaborative Translation Site

cotranslate

While translating the Flight of the Conchords series, I got inspired and wrote my own collaborative translation script, similar to the systems that already existed back then. I used it myself, used it with friends, and somehow it turned out that in 2011 I launched the Cotranslate.Net collaborative translation site.

For a while after that the site kept evolving: articles about Drupal were translated there, and other people gradually started using it. Then life took a turn, I got busy with other things and no longer had time for translations. The site lived on its own; I only dropped by occasionally to clean up spam and answer the rare user question. And in 2014, after certain events, thousands of people a day started visiting the site. So I came back to maintaining it, squashed a few particularly nasty bugs, improved what I could, rented a more powerful server, and kept a regular eye on the site for about a year and a half.

But maintaining, for free, a project I personally hadn't used in ages wasn't very convenient, and it took up quite a lot of time. So I decided to shut the site down. However, so that it wouldn't just disappear without a trace, I found a group of interested people and handed the site's source code over to them. So feel free to visit Cotranslate.ru — the site lives there now (and the cotranslate.net domain still points there for the time being).

The cotranslate.net domain still belongs to me. If anyone wants to buy it, drop me a line.

For those who are interested: the site's source code with brief instructions is publicly available on Google Drive:
