Keeping up my Chinese workouts

Keeping up my Chinese workouts

I'm keeping up my Chinese workouts in Duolingo and Drops.

I'm making progress: the other day I figured out that Xiaomi (小米) means "little rice", and I'm proud of myself.

At some point Drops moved on from teaching me words like 面包圈 (miàn bāo quān, bagel) to sentences like 可以给我一个不加奶酪的沙拉吗? and thinks I should memorize them. But I don't yet know how these sentences are built, so I can't memorize them.

Hence a question: friends, followers, I know there are sages and experts in Chinese among you. Which textbook would you recommend buying to bring a little system to this learning madness? An e-book is fine, but a paper version works too.
