In 2015 I got to work with the progressive Laravel framework, and in early 2016 I became interested in OctoberCMS, which is built on top of it. I liked the CMS so much that I even built a version of this home page with it (instead of Drupal 8, as originally planned).
The experiment lasted for 10 years, code was developed and articles written — see the OctoberCMS tag. But eventually it ended and the home page went back to working on Drupal.
While learning the CMS and building this home page, I also developed the following plugins. They are distributed via GitHub under the MIT license — download and enjoy.
| BlogArchive | A set of extensions for the popular Blog plugin. In particular:
|
| MapMarkers | Components for displaying a map with a given set of markers and for displaying a text list of markers. Each marker can have posts from the Blog plugin and albums from PhotoAlbums attached to it. The “Travel” section of this home page was built on this plugin. The plugin is published on the OctoberCMS plugin marketplace. |
| PhotoAlbums | A plugin for creating photo albums. Each album is a model, and each photo is a separate model too. It comes with 4 components: a list of albums, a single album, a single photo, and a few random photos. You can upload multiple photos to an album in one go and give each photo an (optional) title. Photos can also be inserted right into blog post text, either through a selection dialog or by typing a special embed code. The “Photos” section of this home page was built on this plugin. The plugin is published on the OctoberCMS plugin marketplace. |
